RAS (Reticular Activating System) Series
RAS unfolds as an expanding body of work. A living archive that grows over time. It is my filter: what surfaces, what is suppressed, and what insists on staying.
The series navigates the tension between expectation and surrender, scars and treasures, faith and flesh where gesture is instinctive, but the palette is restrained. I work within a limited range of earthy pigments: (ultramarine blue, raw and burnt umbers, raw and burnt sienna, yellow ochre, black and white) disrupted by a single modern intrusion: orange.
The orange is subtle, sometimes barely there. A color that feels like it should disappear, yet refuses to. It behaves like identity; persistent, disruptive, impossible to fully silence.
And then... The Marks… Language appears, then fractures. Words break into symbols, initials, fragments and meaning is not illustrated; it is processed.
And surfaces are layered, interrupted, scraped, and rebuilt. The layers break because I do. And then they hold.
RAS is a continuing activation. Each new piece extends the system, inviting both artist and viewer to renegotiate perception, to rebuild language from what has been dismantled. The paper works extend this system further. Smaller and more intimate, saturated with broken text and scattered letters, they allow fragments to collide and generate new meanings. RAS is ongoing! An evolving structure of perception, restraint, rupture, and reconstruction.
